Friends
I had a wonderful first Sunday meeting in Elgin. Tom Kyle spoke on being friends of God. It was really good, and as he spoke he was also speaking about naturally friendships. As he spoke, I began thinking about my friendships. One thing God spent a lot of time teaching me this year was friendship. How to build them, who to build them with, what to do when there are problems, etc. I had a friendship this year with a person that I had so much in common with. We had similar backgrounds, tastes, personalities. We began to build a friendship on these things. But it could not last the test of time. Things came up that tested the friendship and it didn't last. That friendship is nearly non-existent now, sadly to say. I also built a friendship with someone that our hearts were joined together in only a few moments. It was a Jonathan and David type relationship(which was later spoken over us). Our relationship continues to flourish because God called us together. Yet another friendship I from this year, we had very little in common(in the beginning) except a passion for God. We took that a began to grow one of the most fulfilling relationships of my life. As we grew, we found that we had more in common than we taught. The key of the last two was that they were built on Christ. If Christ is the cornerstone of any relationship, nothing will be able to undo it except for Christ. Sometimes friendships are formed in an instant. This happened for me on a trip to Toronto, Canada with the GAP. Even in that first meeting(which was very short) a strong bond was built between us. Now everytime he is around, I want to be around him(even though we don't see each other very often at all). When forming relationships in life, build them to last. Build them with Christ as the center. These relationships are the most fulfilling relationship, I believe, life can offer. And like everything else God gives, it is a gift, so don't hold on to tightly... because sometimes God requires us to sacrifice the things we love for him. This maybe my last post for awhile, since as of right now I don't have the internet in Elgin... I will hopefully get it in a week or two. Please continue to check my blog and leave comments... they have been a great encouragement to me. God bless you(especially in the relationships that you have and will have). I know that he will.
With all my love(that can be giving through a blog)
David

Very good and inspiring thoughts on friendships. It's really true that if Jesus is what we build upon and are elad by, it will be fulfilling and blessed.

I'm glad you're happy in Elgin.
My brother and sister-in-law are in that church and if you can get the time to hang out with them your life will be en'rich'ed, (hee hee excuse the pun, I only noticed it after I wrote it).
If you can spend time with Rich he will be a blessing to you.
He's a man of conviction and is a hard working consistent guy. Cool!
Peace Bro,
Joe...
ps. Praying for you.
David thank you! Our lives are not about us and our things but about the friendships that we build and the people around us. I am blessed to have a 'David and Jonathan' friendship with Cheryl and they are not always easy to come by, but they do and you must embrace it no matter where you end up or what you end up doing. You are such an encouragement David and I really appreciate your honesty and openness.
David,
I love you! God spoke to me about friendships also this year and what a true friend really is. I have been blessed to know you this year and I enjoyed all of our talks. Even though we are apart(well you're in my hometown :( )
I miss you and you're always a friend of mine.
Right on Dude...

Peace from the North...

As I read your blog, I began to thank the Lord for what seems to be the thousandth time for the friendship that you and james and I have to experience, and how when I look back it seems as though it formed so quickly and effortlessly that I know that it was 100 percent from God, and I am thankful that therefore it is a friendship built on the rock of Christ and it will never be torn down for anything....but it will only grow amazingly stronger!
Hello,
I just wanted to say that I appreciate you very much. I wish that I could see you more!! But that is okay, at least I will always know that you've got my back. Talk to you later!!
